Digital footprint: it's that idea that seems simple at first until you really start analyzing it in depth. In short, one's digital footprint is made up of the tracks one leaves on the internet. Any site that requires a log in, like Facebook and YouTube, allows online payments, permits comments to be posted, can all contribute to your digital footprint. The more things that you do online, the bigger your digital footprint.
Recently I tried to see how big of a footprint I had left behind. And so, I took to google in order to search myself. Typing my name in I was amused to see all the different types of results that came up. Anything from names of doctors, actresses, and all sorts of other people appeared. However, I wasn't able to find that tied to me directly after sifting through 15 pages of google search results. This doesn't mean I haven't left behind a digital footprint, instead, it's because my name is so common that it is inundated by other people who share my name.
Another contributing factor is that I chose to separate my professional from my personal life. I did so by using an altered version of my name. Now, after looking up the name I use for all of my personal profiles, the results were vastly different. Everything from my gaming profiles to instagram appeared. My pictures, posts, gaming statistics were there for the public to see.
Knowing this, what kind of digital footprint do you have?
